Private Education Loans
Private education loans are offered by banks and other private lenders to help students cover educational expenses. Unlike federal student loans, private loans are credit-based, and eligibility, interest rates, and repayment terms vary by lender.Students who need additional funding beyond their available federal financial aid may choose to explore private loan options. Before applying for a private loan, review your eligibility for federal student aid, as federal loans may offer more favorable terms and repayment options. You can complete the FAFSA and review Meridian's Financial Aid Overview for information about available federal aid options.Explore Private Loan Lenders

What to Consider Before Applying
When comparing private loan options, review the following:- Eligibility: Private loans generally require a credit check, and some lenders may require a qualified cosigner or minimum enrollment status.
- Interest Rates and Fees: Lenders may offer fixed or variable interest rates. Review applicable fees and the total cost of borrowing.
- Repayment Terms: Repayment options vary by lender. Some loans require payments while enrolled, while others may offer deferred repayment.
- Loan Certification: Private loans require school certification before funds can be disbursed. The approved loan amount is subject to the University's cost of attendance and other financial assistance received.
- Self-Certification: Students must complete a Private Education Loan Self-Certification Form before loan funds can be disbursed. Meridian's Financial Services Team can provide the cost of attendance and financial aid information needed to complete this form.
