Admissions SMS/Texting

Our Admissions Team uses SMS/texting to communicate with prospective students and applicants. By completing the admissions application online, filling out a form on our website, booking an advising appointment, or using the LiveChat feature, you are opting-in to receiving text messages from Meridian University. You can cancel at any time by texting STOP to one of the messages.

MeridianU Mobile Application

Meridian University offers the MeridianU mobile application (“the App”) for iOS and Android devices as a companion to its online services. This section describes how the App collects, uses, and protects your personal information in addition to the general practices described above.

Information We Collect Through the App

Account and Authentication Information. The App requires you to sign in with your Meridian University Microsoft account. Through this sign-in process, we receive your name, e-mail address, and profile image (if available) from Microsoft Azure Active Directory. This information is used to create and maintain your account within the App.

Device and Push Notification Information. If you grant permission, the App registers your device to receive push notifications. This involves collecting a device-specific push notification token and your device platform (iOS or Android). These tokens are used solely to deliver notifications to your device and are automatically removed if your device is no longer registered.

Notification Preferences. The App allows you to control which types of notifications you receive (such as course updates, e-mail alerts, and general announcements) and through which channels (push notification, e-mail, or both). These preferences are stored in association with your account.

Notification History. The App maintains a record of notifications sent to you, including the notification title, content, type, delivery method, and whether you have read the notification.

Academic Information. The App retrieves your current academic program, enrollment status, and term information from Meridian University’s student information system (Salesforce) using your university e-mail address. This information is used to personalize your experience within the App, such as displaying your program name and current term on the home screen.

Device Permissions. The App may request access to your device’s camera and photo library for the purpose of profile photos. You may grant or deny these permissions through your device’s settings at any time.

How We Use Your Information

The information collected through the App is used to:

• Authenticate your identity and maintain your session
• Deliver push notifications and e-mail notifications relevant to your university activities
• Personalize the App experience with your name, program, and term information
• Respect your notification preferences and opt-out choices
• Provide access to internal Meridian services (such as Outlook, the Services Portal, and Pivot) through the App’s built-in browser

Data Storage and Security

Your authentication credentials (session tokens and cookies) are stored on your device using platform-provided secure storage mechanisms—specifically, the iOS Keychain and Android Keystore—which encrypt this data at rest. Server-side data, including your account information, notification history, push notification tokens, and preferences, is stored in Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB, a cloud database hosted by Microsoft Azure. We implement reasonable security measures, including API key authentication and session validation, to protect your data from unauthorized access.

Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third-party services to function:

• Microsoft Azure Active Directory — for single sign-on authentication using your Meridian University account
• Expo Push Notification Service — for routing push notifications to your device through Apple Push Notification Service (iOS) or Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android)
• Resend — for delivering e-mail notifications on your behalf
• Salesforce — for retrieving your academic program and enrollment information

These third-party services receive only the information necessary to perform their respective functions and are subject to their own privacy policies.

In-App Browser

The App includes a built-in browser for accessing internal Meridian University services, including your Outlook e-mail, the Student Services Portal, and the Pivot learning platform. This browser shares authentication cookies from your Microsoft sign-in so that you do not need to re-authenticate when accessing these services. The in-app browser is used only for Meridian University and affiliated domains; external links are opened in your device’s default web browser.

Cookies in the Mobile App

The App uses session cookies to maintain your authenticated session and to provide seamless access to internal Meridian services through the in-app browser. These cookies are stored in your device’s native cookie storage and are not shared with third-party advertisers. The App does not use cookies for tracking or advertising purposes.

Your Choices

You may manage your experience with the App in the following ways:

• Push Notifications. You may enable or disable push notifications at any time through the App’s Profile screen or through your device’s notification settings.
• E-mail Notifications. You may enable or disable e-mail notifications for each notification category within the App’s Profile screen.
• Camera and Photo Library. You may grant or revoke access to your device’s camera and photo library through your device’s settings.
• Sign Out. You may sign out of the App at any time through the Profile screen, which will end your session and remove your session credentials from the device.
• Uninstall. You may uninstall the App at any time, which will remove all locally stored data, including session tokens and cookies, from your device.

Data Retention

We retain your notification history, preferences, and account information for as long as your Meridian University account is active or as needed to provide you with the App’s services. Push notification tokens are automatically removed when your device is no longer registered with the notification service.
