We know that there is an ineffable something that sets certain moments apart. We can say that these moments are marked by a quality of presence. From these moments of presence, we often experience something of value emerging.

Thus in the context of work, presence can be viewed as a desirable quality. We have intentions for evoking and invoking this presence, yet we also know that we are required to have non-judgmental awareness of what arises.

For each of us, how do we understand and work with this notion of presence at work?

Jonathan Ream, Meridian faculty, practices the cultivation of leadership through awareness based consulting, coaching and leadership development program design and delivery in a variety of settings. He has a position at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), serves as Editor-in Chief of Integral Review, and is a co-founder of the Center for Transformative Leadership and of the European Center for Leadership Practice. Bonnitta Roy is founder of Alderlore Insight Center, an educational organization focusing on transformation in education, business and governance. She is the program coordinator of the Masters of Consciousness Studies at the Graduate Institute, and award-winning Integral process philosopher, and associate editor at Integral Review. She is the founding associate of APP Associates, International, and is currently developing new organizational models based on principles of open participation.

August Turak is a successful entrepreneur, corporate executive, and award winning author who attributes much of his success to living and working alongside the Trappist monks of Mepkin Abbey for 17 years. Organizational life is marked by ever-present change. Again and again we are in territory where we are no longer the old and not yet the new. The familiar or recently accomplished no longer serves us and we are confronted with not knowing but somehow a knowing from beyond our usual reference points becomes available. In this dialogue we will share insights and questions about liminal processes and how they shape our work with organizations.

David Sibbet is President of The Grove Consultants International, based in the Thoreau Center for Sustainability in San Francisco. Bethe Hagens is part of Walden University’s PhD faculty in Public Policy & Administration. Driving passions in her work are the arts, social justice, and critical theory. Alan Briskin, Ph.D. is an award-winning author, artist, and pioneer in the field of organizational learning.
